RoyalCam was set up in January 2016 by the Department of Conservation and the Cornell Lab has been collaborating with DOC since 2019 to bring the cam to life. The 2024–25 season features male RLK (named for his colored leg bands: Red, Lime, blacK) and female GLG (Green, Lime, Green) nesting at the Signal Station Trig nest site. This is the pair's first season on the Northern Royal Albatross Cam.
